Mac Security: Lock your Mac without logging out

My new favorite way to lock my Mac: /System/Library/CoreServices/”Menu Extras”/User.menu/Contents/Resources/CGSession -suspend This is a simple command that can be run from Terminal.  You get a cool animation from your desktop to the lock screen, and you can’t get back in without the password.  If you want to learn how to use Automator and set it [...]

David Pogue’s BlackBerry Storm review story

David Pogue wrote his original review for the BlackBerry Storm last week and his verdict was that the phone is terrible.  And he was spot on.  David Pogue posts another article detailing some of the email responses that he received to his original article.

Weird font bug in TweetDeck

Just noticed this last night and thought my eyes were going bad.  The weird thing is that scrolling through the Tweets fixes the error.  It must be some font rendering bug for this specific font in Adobe Air.  I’m running TweetDeck on Leopard.  It seems to only happen with the capital ‘S’. Here are the [...]

Unibody MacBook: screen brightness fluctuations

I’ve been noticing lately that on my 13″ Unibody Macbook the screen brightness fluctuates at times.  It doesn’t happen very often, but it does happen.  MacFixIt has confirmed this issue and details that it happens because of the ambient light sensor that’s placed at the top of the screen (if you place your hand over [...]

iPhone 3G: extra battery pack

Last week I wrote a post about the Richard Solo 1800, stating that you should “look no further” if you’re in need of extra battery life.  Well, I’m wrong.  I went against my own advice and looked further to find a much nicer (in my opinion) extra battery option, and a great review that compares [...]

First, if you’re like some people (me?) and you just don’t want to be locked out of taking full advantage of your own phone for some obsessive compulsive reason, [...]

VMware 2.0 vs. Parallels 4

As an update to my earlier post about VMware vs. Boot Camp, I’m now adding Parallels to the mix.  I used the same Boot Camp partition that I used in the VMware  vs. Boot Camp scenario.  I installed all of the Parallels tools onto Vista and restarted… The verdict: *drumroll* – Parallels and VMware are [...]
