Apple’s small business market sales tripled in just three months

AppleInsider’s article points out that Apple’s small business market seemed to triple overnight and they don’t seem to not know the reason why.  I actually think some of the reasons are just plain obvious.  Maybe I can help answer this question – I too am part of a small business that has lots of MacBooks.

The reasons: there are two. Boot Camp, and price.

The first is boot camp.  AppleInsider’s article falsely links Mac sales to OS X adoption when it states that the rapid move occurred in a “normally Windows-dominated crowd.”  This distinction in the past has been correct, but with the introduction of Boot Camp, and the update of Boot Camp’s drivers over the past year, the Operating System can now be removed from the list of reasons people choose PCs. Windows runs just as well on a PC as it does on a Mac (in most cases).

The second reason is price.  People think Apple’s computers are cool – there’s no question about that. The design is top-notch and people are willing to pay for that… sort of.  The typical home user isn’t going to lay down a wad of cash just for this “coolness” factor (also known as apple tax) – they’re going to pay for the “coolness” factor with somebody else’s money, and that somebody is usually the small business.
